Julia Isídrez: Mundo de Julia
June 27 – August 14, 2024 297 Tenth Avenue, New York Mundo de Julia, an exhibition of ceramic sculpture by Julia Isídrez (b. 1967, Itá, Paraguay) marks the artist’s first solo exhibition in the United States and runs concurrently with Isídrez’s presentation in Stranieri Ovunque – Foreigners Everywhere, the 60th International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia curated by Adriano Pedrosa. Among the most notable sculptors working in South America today, Isídrez has recently emerged on the international stage as a singular voice in contemporary art. She continues to garner broader recognition for elaborating the sculptural and expressive capacity of an ancient methodology passed down by her mother, the famed ceramic artist Juana Marta Rodas (1925-2013). Expanding an indigenous Guaraní tradition in which mothers have taught ceramic techniques to their daughters for centuries, Isídrez reconfigures the sculptural language and traditional forms of her ancestors, fostering her own creative force in the realm of contemporary sculpture. NARES TRACES
May 16 – June 22, 2024 297 Tenth Avenue, New York The fifteenth solo exhibition at the gallery of work by multidisciplinary artist Jamie Nares (b. 1953) examines over 100 works on paper in a variety of media—namely oil, ink, and enamel—made after refocusing her artistic attention from film to painting in the early 1980s. Coolly perceptive, Nares’ works on paper share the same conceptual focus on movement, rhythm, and measurements of time that has driven the artist’s various bodies of work over the last fifty years. This exhibition points to paper as an essential instrument in Nares’ ongoing exploration of these themes. View More -

June 8 – August 11, 2023 297 Tenth Avenue, New York Featuring eleven new oil paintings, the exhibition reveals recent developments among Ralaivao’s signature detail views of human figures and the proprieties they observe. Daniel Gordon: Free Transform
April 27 – June 3, 2023 297 Tenth Avenue, New York Spanning the exhibition is the seven-panel Panoramic Still Life (2023), which extends 23 feet in width and functions as a single site-specific installation while allowing for its alternate presentation in individual works or groupings. Pushing the limits of both scale and dimensionality, Gordon expands the viewer’s visual experience to allow for an immersive ambulatory exploration of the exhibition space and, by extension, his constructed universe. As his subjects and objects glitch through multiple mediums, Gordon occasions a slippage that speaks to the camera’s capability to transform as well as document. View More -

The exhibition, which focuses on figurative depictions of subjects from drama, folklore, and dream, is the first solo presentation of work by Fini at Kasmin and will include costume and sculptural works recently exhibited in The Milk of Dreams: The 59th International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia. The exhibition includes work by Shadi Al-Atallah, Mira Dancy, Miranda Forrester, Elizabeth Glaessner, Anya Kielar, Katherina Olschbaur, and Mark Yang.

A virtuosic display of Motherwell’s graphic invention, the works possess a significant emotive power and represent a profound meditation on the history of drawing and of mark making itself.

Elemental
September 26 – November 2, 2019 297 Tenth Avenue, New York Kasmin is pleased to announce Elemental, an exhibition comprised of minimalist and post-minimalist painting and sculpture that lays bare the foundational components of these consecutive 20th-century movements. Spanning 1963–1981, each work in the exhibition demonstrates a conceptually robust reduction of both form and content, drawing renewed attention to the nuances of the artistic process, the visceral potential of materials, and the organizational structure of a composition. By way of geometric abstraction, singular motifs, monochromatic palettes and the embracing of repetition, this seminal group of artists eschewed the gestural individualism of mid-century Abstract Expressionism and paved the way for a new understanding of art-making. Jan-Ole Schiemann: A Different Pose
March 7 – May 4, 2019 297 Tenth Avenue, New York Kasmin is pleased to present A Different Pose, the gallery’s first solo exhibition of new paintings by Cologne-based artist Jan-Ole Schiemann. Schiemann’s paintings are grounded in both gestural abstraction and the history of 20th-century animation, aspects that combine to imbue his work with a rare sense of kinetic energy. Half-formed, simultaneously disappearing and reappearing shapes suggest that somewhere amidst the lines, there are figures tumbling, colliding, or fighting obscured by clouds of smoke. As a result of Schiemann’s meticulous, layered application of charcoal, oilstick, ink and acrylic, the works have the illusion of both a sculptural and a digital depth. The artist’s first solo exhibition at Kasmin will be comprised of new medium-scale and monumental paintings, as well as the debut of a new series of works on paper. View More -
Andy Warhol: Polaroid Portraits
January 24 – March 2, 2019 297 Tenth Avenue, New York Kasmin is pleased to present an exhibition of Andy Warhol’s polaroid portraits, on view from January 24 - March 2, 2019, at 297 Tenth Avenue, New York.
Beginning in the 1960s, Warhol carried a camera with him almost constantly, obsessively documenting both his personal life and the daily goings on in his studio, The Factory. These images, artworks in their own right, also acted as visual references and formed the basis of many of the artist’s drawings, silkscreens, and paintings. Highlighting the integral contribution of photography to his art-making process, Warhol referred to his Polaroid Big Shot camera (which he purchased in 1970) as his “pencil and paper.” View More -

September 13 – October 27, 2018 297 Tenth Avenue, New York Mural Studies brings together eight of Lee Krasner’s rarely exhibited small-scale, gouache-on-paper studies for an unrealized Works Progress Administration mural painting. Created in 1940 (the same year Krasner produced, in her own words, her “first abstract work”) the gouaches investigate varying configurations of geometric and biomorphic forms alongside linear elements reminiscent of Jean Arp and Joan Miró. Dancing on flat backgrounds and reveling in vivid color, Krasner’s shapes consistently avoid the same designated window and door areas in each composition, suggesting that they were created with a single, now unknown, space in mind.
